INDIA USA TRADE: India’s fuel export gets big relief, petroleum products out of Donald Trump’s tariff list. Petroleum products like diesel and ATF (aviation turbine fuel) exported from India to the US have been excluded from the tariff list announced by US President Donald Trump. This means that no additional import duty (tariff) will now be imposed on these products.
INDIA USA TRADE
According to official data, India exported 48.6 lakh tonnes of petroleum products to the US in the financial year 2024-25, worth more than $4 billion. The largest share of these products was fuel sent by Reliance Industries, which is the largest Indian company exporting fuel to the US.
Although Trump recently announced a 25% tariff on India, the government order he later signed exempts several key Indian commodities from tariffs. These include pharmaceuticals, electronics, semiconductors, smartphones, SSDs, computers as well as crude oil, refined fuel, electricity and coal.
Experts believe that keeping fuel exports tariff free will ensure smooth trade with the US for companies like India and Reliance. At the same time, despite the Trump administration’s warning about India’s energy relations with Russia, there have been no signs of any punitive action or economic penalty so far.
